Dan Daw

Dancer/Assistant Creative Producer

Dan completed a Bachelor of Creative Arts at the Flinders University Drama Centre in 2004. He joined Restless Dance Company in 2002, performing in works by Ingrid Voorendt, Kat Worth, Daisy Brown, Michael Whaites, Garry Stewart, and Billie Cook. In early 2006, Dan danced with UK company FRONTLINEdance in their 5th AnniversaryTour and in 2007 he performed with Scottish Dance Theatre as Guest Dancer in Adam Benjamin’s Angels of Incidence for their Spring Tour. In 2007/2008, Dan worked with Kate Champion’s Force Majeure performing in The Age I’m In for the 2008 Sydney and Adelaide Festival’s.

2009 saw Dan produce his first solo work, CRUSH, in partnership with balletLORENT and Dance City.  He joined Candoco Dance Company in 2010, performing repertory pieces by Wendy Houstoun, Nigel Charnock, Sarah Michelson, Raphael Bonacella, Rachid Ouramdane, Trisha Brown and Javier de Frutos.

Dan is a graduate of the Royal National Theatre Step Change programme 2012/13. In re-emerging as a Producer, Dan’s key interest is in developing bespoke on-the-job training opportunities for emerging talent in dance and theatre. Dan intends to maintain his work as a performer, as well as producing.

Parallel to working as a performer, Dan has tutored for Restless Dance Company, No Strings Attached: Theatre of Disability, FRONTLINEdance, Scottish Dance Theatre, and more recently Candoco Dance Company. In 2004, to develop his skills as an integrated dance tutor, he trained with Alito Alessi in Oregon, USA to obtain the DanceAbility Teacher Certification. In conjunction with Art of Difference 2006, Dan directed The Birds, his first creative development with Weave Movement Theatre and Restless Dance Company. Dan was mentored by Ingrid Voorendt for this project.

Dan has received a number of awards including, the Outlet Dance Award, the Dame Ruby Litchfield Scholarship, and the Russell Page Fellowship in Contemporary Dance. He was the South Australian Young Achiever in the Arts category for 2006, and Young Australian of the Year finalist for 2009.
