Youth

Providing a variety of access routes into dance for young people forms an integral part of our work.  Our youth programme offers regular dance classes, taster workshops and partnership projects, through which we aim to introduce young people to creative dance practice in different settings and at varying stages of their training.

Youth Classes

We run two weekly classes for young people aged 13 – 25 of all levels of experience.  The classes encourage creativity and provide an opportunity to work with other keen dancers whilst learning contemporary technique.

We run two classes each week:

MONDAY, 5:30 – 7:30pm
Trinity Laban, The Laban Building, Creekside, London SE8 3DZ
15 April – 15 July (Half term May 27th)

TUESDAY, 6 – 8pm
The Place, 17 Flaxman Terrace, London WC1H 9AT
16 April – 16 July (half term May 28th)

£5 per class / £65 for the 13 week term

I really, really enjoy the youth classes, they have been a great way for me to push myself with my technique and my creative abilities in dance

Danielle, Youth Dancer

Class attenders often get the opportunity to perform as part of Cando2, Candoco’s youth dance company.  Cando2 has performed throughout the country at venues including Clywd Theatre Cymru, The Place, The Scoop at More London, Southbank Centre, Sadler’s Wells and Trinity Laban. Visit our video library for a taster of some previous performance projects.

*Current Opportunity – Cando2 has been invited to perform at Camp Bestival this summer. Download a flier for more information*

Summer School

From 27 – 31 August, Candoco teams up with All Change B’s Project and the Platform Young Creative Producers for a summer school programme aimed at young women aged 13 to 25 years.  Two Candoco Artists will lead the week, which is intended to empower and excite young women.  The Summer School is FREE, open to disabled and non-disabled women and requires no previous dance experience.

We are also holding a FREE Taster Day session where you can meet the Artists, try a class and ask all of your questions during a Q&A on Saturday 15 June at Platform Islington.  Places are free but must be booked via Platform Islington’s website.

We also deliver bespoke residencies, summer schools, performance projects and taster workshops for young people across the country, frequently working with key organisations.  Past partners include artsdepot, Greenwich Dance, Trinity Laban and The Place.

We offer mentoring and development support to young people we engage and many have emerged as young leaders taking up professional engagements with Candoco and other organisations including East London Dance, Sadler’s Wells and the London Paralympics.
