Welly O’ Brien started training with Candoco Dance Company in 1998 after being awarded an apprenticeship funded by the Arts Council.
She joined the company full time in 2000, touring and teaching nationally and internationally and performing works by Javier De Frutos, Doug Elkins and Fin Walker.
She left the company briefly to have a family and rejoined as an associate artist delivering education work with Moving Bodies.
In 2009, she understudied and toured with Candoco with works by Hofesh Shechter and Nigel Charnock. In 2012 she performed in Parallel Lines by Marc Brew and 12 by Clare Cunningham, which were specially commissioned for the Unlimited Festival in celebration of the Cultural Olympiad.
Most recently, she performed in Trisha Brown’s floor of the forest, Scarabeus’ Heartland, the closing ceremony of the Paralympic Games and with La Fura dels Baus and Graeae in Prometheus Awakes. These recent works have led her into more site specific work, which she enjoys every aspect of.
