Turning 20

For this programme, we will restage Trisha Brown’s signature work Set and Reset from 1983, which confirmed her as a pioneer of contemporary dance.Using the original concepts from Trisha Brown’s playful choreography, Laurie Anderson’s contagious score and Robert Rauschenberg’s beautiful designs, we will reconstruct a new version of this audience favourite. The restaging project Set and Reset/Reset with Trisha Brown Dance Company will combine the original with Candoco dancer’s choreography.

French artist Rachid Ouramdane intertwines strong visuals and striking costumes with unforgettable soundscapes to create Looking Back- an atmospheric piece full of individuality. Drawing on the performers’ pasts, he reveals portraits of life to create poetic, often dark and ultimately compassionate dance work. For a first look behind the scenes watch this insight video featuring Rachid Ouramdane and dancers Chris Owen and Mirjam Gurtner, along with some studio footage.

Finally, in a first for Candoco, Matthias Sperling, captures the uniqueness of one dancer in his lighthearted solo This is it. This intimate encounter allows the audience to reflect and focus on every movement detail and to indulge in the feeling it evokes. You can find out more about this work in this insight video.

These works herald our next 20 years by celebrating dance through time, presenting different ways of making dance and building on our rich experience as the company of disabled and non disabled dancers.

The restaging project Set and Reset/Reset has been co-commissioned by Dance Umbrella.
