The Making of ‘Still’ by Nigel Charnock

Nigel Charnock is a founder member of DV8, formed his own company – Nigel Charnock + Company in 1995. A maverick and totally captivating performer, Nigel ruptures the boundaries of performance using different disciplines and media to redefine dance as a genre.
Nigel has a string of internationally acclaimed shows to his name and was Artistic Director of Helsinki Dance Company 2002-5. His is well known for his unique solo performances including Human Being, Hell Bent, Original Sin and Resurrection.

Since 2003 Nigel has been touring his solo work, Frank, a fiercely comic blend of improvised monologue, song and dance; very physical and very entertaining. In 2006 Nigel created Stupid Men for an ensemble of male performers and continued to perform ‘Fever’ – an improvisation based on Shakespeare’s love sonnets with composer and clarinetist Michael Riessler with whom Nigel is developing a new piece ‘Rage’.

In 2008 Nigel realised the meaninglessness of life and has begun work on a new solo show ‘Nothing’ which will premiere in 2009.

  1. Hi Samantha,

As always Nigel Charnock is a whirlwind of activity!

You’ll be sorry to hear you recently missed his all new exhilarating, overwhelming and moving solo show One Dixon Road at The Place in October and more recently his innovative collaboration with acclaimed contemporary jazz pianist Gwillym Simcock for the opening of London Jazz Festival at Southbank Centre London in early November – BUT – rumor has it both these new ventures are set to tour in 2011….

Right now Charnock’s maverick genius has made its way to Budapest to create a new work with 11 performers – premiering there in February 2011.

And! …If that’s not enough you might want to check out candadian dance icon Louise LeCavalier’s tour schedule – Children – the extraordinary duet Charnock created for her and Patrick Lamothe comes to Europe and the UK in 2011 too http://www.louiselecavalier.com/index_en.html

    Happy dance hunting

    Luke
